Mobile County Republican Candidate Qualifying for the 2020 Election
The 2020 election season starts here. For your candidacy to appear on the ballot, you need to qualify. In this post, you will find the documents you need to get started with your candidacy. Please read over all the deadlines and documents before submitting them. Qualifying consists of three major components.

All 2020 Election information can be found on the Alabama Secretary of State’s site. Go to the Alabama Votes tab, select Election Information and then you will find the 2020 Election Information.
Qualifying for Federal or State Offices
State Constitutional Officers
All Federal and State Offices must be filed through the Alabama Republican Party. For more information (such as where to file and qualifying fees), please refer to ALGOP’s 2020 Candidate Qualifying page.
Qualifying for the 2020 Republican Primary Election Cycle will open on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. CST and close on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 5 :00 p.m. CST per Section 17-13-5 of the Code of Alabama of 1975.
- Be sure to confer with legal counsel to ensure correct compliance with all election laws.
- Be aware of all pre-election report deadlines and submit financial reports to the Secretary of State as required once fundraising thresholds have been met (see Candidate Filing Guide for details). A copy of the Alabama Fair Campaign Practices Act is available from either the ALGOP Headquarters (3505 Lorna Road, Birmingham, AL 35216) or the Secretary of State’s office (600 Dexter Ave, Montgomery, AL 36104).

Complete and return Declaration of Candidacy form and a qualifying fee to Chairman Bourne no later than 5:00 p.m. CST on Friday, November 8, 2019. Forms/fees must be submitted by this time; papers received via mail, email, electronically, or in-person after this date by state law cannot be accepted.

2% of the salary of the office you are pursuing (under Alabama Code Sec. 17-13-47). Below are examples of Mobile County positions, their salaries and the amount due for the qualifying fee; state and federal office candidates must qualify with the state party in Montgomery. Qualifying fees are non-refundable. Please verify the amount due with appropriate parties.

Statement of Economic Interests
Complete and return the Statement of Economic Interests form to the Alabama Ethics Commission or complete online. ALGOP highly suggests filing before qualifying as a candidate. Deadline: This must be filed no more than five days after qualifying with Chairman Bourne. If you do not fill this out on time you can be disqualified.

Fair Campaign Practices Act
Complete and return the appointment of Principal Campaign Committee form to the Secretary of State’s office within five calendar days of qualifying with ALGOP or Chairman Bourne. If you do not fill this out on time you can be disqualified.

Principal Campaign Committee
File your Principal Campaign Committee or Political Action Committee online.
Be sure to keep up with your campaign finances, and file your reports at the appropriate time. You can file online at the Alabama Electronic Fair Campaign Practices Act Reporting System.
These forms may be filed daily, weekly, monthly, or annually depending on filing calendar and when you hit specific thresholds. Please check the Candidate 2020 Filing Calendar to be sure you do not miss any dates.
If you do not fill these out on time you can be disqualified.

Upon dissolution of the campaign committee, the chairman or treasurer of the committee should provide the Secretary of State’s office with a Statement of Dissolution Form, a record of unreported contributions and expenditures, and a statement of how excess campaign funds will be distributed.
